Eating in Nauvoo
There are several options for lunch and dinner during your stay in Nauvoo, as well as small shops for finding souveniers to take home with you. If you are planning to stay in Nauvoo for several days though, staying in a place where you have access to kitchen may be a good idea so that you can prepare some of your own meals.
Mulholland Street is a good place to start. Hotel Nauvoo offers a good buffet at dinnertime. It's located near the end of Mulholland across the street and down slightly from the Temple. The buffet offers Southern fried chicken, roast beef, turkey Hotel Nauvoo's famous wild rice dressing , vegetables, potatoes, and homemade breads. For more information www.hotelnauvoo.com.
For a breakfast buffet and lunch items, Grandpa John's Nauvoo Cafe is a good choice. It's located across the street from Hotel Nauvoo, and owned and operated by them. Inside Zion's Mercantile on Mulholland Street (across the street from the Temple) is a cafe by Magleby's of Utah. They serve soup, sandwiches, famous Magleby's bread sticks, and other items.
There is also a small grocery store, Duck's farther down on Muholland Street and a Casey's gas station where you can pick up pizza.
Don't miss Annie's Frozen Custard just past the Latter-day Harvest bookstore on Mulholland Street. They serve frozen custard in several flavors with all kinds of toppings. Yum!
Dottie's Family Dining offers a variety of food for lunch and dinner.
For a quick sandwich, you can try the Nauvoo Mill and Bakery on the east end of Mulholland Street. The Mayfly, across the street offers hand-dipped ice cream.
Other dining choices are limited, so if you are coming for a few days, plan to bring food with you, or go across the river to Keokuk, where you can find pretty much anything from Pizza Hut, Sonic, and McDonalds, to family restaurants. Click here for a list of Keokuk restaraunts.
Shopping in Nauvoo
For Nauvoo shopping on Mulholland Street, check out Zion's Mercantile on the west end across from the Temple. Next to the Mercantile is the Temple House Gallery, which sells fine art. Don't miss the Fudge Factory across the street! On the same side of the street as the Fudge Factory is a shop that sells tshirts and souveniers called the Art Needlework Shop.
At Latter-day Harvest Bookstore you can browse the latest LDS books and read up about Nauvoo history. Another bookstore option is Neff's Old House Bookstore, which recently relocated to the house located next to Duck's on Mulholland Street.
Old Nauvoo Christmas is also on Mulholland Street just east of the Latter-day Harvest bookstore. They sell fabric, quilts, and gift items.
Our kids have enjoyed making a "Nauvoo Penny" at the and the Allyn House Gift Shop on Mulholland Street. There are a variety of gifts and souvenirs available at the Allyn House, as well as some books written locally about Nauvoo and the rebuilding of the Nauvoo Temple.
The Mayfly, across Mulholland Street from the Nauvoo Mill and Bakery, offers gifts and hand-dipped ice cream.
