Monuments and Memorials in Nauvoo

The Monument to Women Garden located at the LDS Visitor's Center in Nauvoo features statues dedicated to pioneer women and the role of womanhood. Sculptors Florence Hansen and Dennis Smith created the monuments.
In front of the Temple at the end of Mulholland Street is a statue of Joseph and his brother Hyrum on their horses. This spot is a great place to overlook Old Nauvoo and the Mississippi River Bend.
Also on Mulholland Street across from the Temple, in front of Zion's Mercantile, you can see a statue of Joseph Smith, and a statue of Israel and Elizabeth Barlow. Israel was the first Latter-day Saint to contact Dr. Isaac Galland about purchasing the land near Commerce, Illinois which would eventually become Nauvoo. There is also a plaque dedicated to Joseph Smith, Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith.
Just a little further down Mulholland Street are the "Nauvoo Village Shops" where you will find several small pioneer buildings (Phelphs' Household Goods and Wares, a blacksmith shop and an armory). These are typical of the log and frame buildings in Nauvoo. Amongst the buildings you'll find a statue of Joseph and Hyrum, which is a great place for a picture.
Near the river front on Parley and Water Streets is the Exodus to Greatness Monument, which features the names of over 2,000 pioneers who died along the Mormon Trail after leaving Nauvoo. There is also a statue of Brigham Young and Joseph Smith, looking west and imagining the journey west. This is the spot along the river where many of the pioneers first began their journey west, leaving their beautiful Nauvoo behind forever.
